Grey marl is not a colour exactly. It is what happens when you spin together fibres of different natural shades and the result settles somewhere between white and charcoal, slightly heathered, slightly textured, never quite the same twice.
It works with everything because it does not compete with anything. Navy, black, white, olive, brown, it sits alongside all of them without drawing attention to itself. It is the wardrobe equivalent of a good listener.
It also improves with washing. The slight variation in tone that comes from the marl process becomes more pronounced over time, which means a pair of grey marl joggers or sweatpants looks better in year two than it did in year one. That is the opposite of most clothing, which fades toward uniformity as it ages.
